Diesel Generators A diesel generator is a combination of electric generator, often called an alternator, with a diesel engine used to supply electric energy. Diesel generators are used to supply power in many applications ranging from emergency power supply to full-time electric power needs and are are often found in places where an emergency power supply is needed such as hospitals, office buildings, and factories.

Generators can be set up and used for full-time electric power needs where no connection to the grid exists, such as on a construction site or a remote location. Diesel generators can also be used in place of standard electric power to eliminate the need for a connection to the grid. Often, a diesel generator is used to aid standard power systems in times of peak use as well. Diesel generators can also be useful for powering vehicles, for example motor homes. In times of power outages, diesel generators are often set up and used to supply power to essential operations such as a hospital, office building, or factory.
